MSOC sponsors Durham Rescue Mission in remembrance of Emily Bearden

Today we remember our dear friend and coworker, Emily Bearden, as we give back to the Durham Rescue Mission. Emily was a former employee at MSOC Health, and it’s the 10th anniversary since she passed in 2007.

MSOC sponsored both the men’s and women’s divisions of the Durham Rescue Mission. November 15 was her birthday, and we choose to honor her memory every year by contributing to an organization that was dear to Emily’s heart. She volunteered there every Saturday, and we continue to remember her joyful, strong spirit every year by giving back to the incredible cause that she loved so dearly.

MSOC decorates duffel bags for Together We Rise event

Melanie Armstrong, a former employee of MSOC, left in 2013 to attend law school at UNC. She has a heart for children in the foster care system and organized a Together We Rise fundraising event to raise money to sponsor and decorate duffel bags for children brought into the foster system through Orange County Department of Social Services.

MSOC was glad to financially support this effort and decorate duffel bags for twenty children! Each bag will replace the trash bags that are usually given for their belongings and contain a coloring book, crayons, hygiene kit, blanket and teddy bear. Thanks so much to everyone for helping!

In case you are interested in donating or learning more about this effort, visit UNC Law Child Action – Duffel Bags for Foster Kids.

Today, we are honoring the memory of a former young MSOC employee – Ms. Emily Bearden – on her birthday by sponsoring both the men’s and women’s shelters at the Durham Rescue Mission. Operation Daily Bread provides the basic operating expenses for one full day of electricity, heat, food and maintenance to care for men, women and children.

Emily volunteered at this nonprofit every Saturday, and we continue to remember her joyful, strong spirit every year by giving back to the incredible cause that she loved so dearly. Learn more about the Durham Rescue Mission.
