3 Truths About Transparency

Transparency is getting a lot of attention these days as a way to create a high-value health care system, and rightly so. Transparency is among quality’s most versatile and valuable principles.
But we should remember that transparency is not a cure-all. Let’s keep three things in mind:
1. It’s not just about cost.
When you hear people talk about transparency, stop and ask, “Transparency about what?” If the answer is simply “cost,” you’re missing half the story. After all, a high-value health care system is one that delivers high quality at low cost.
